Teachers

All the antenatal teachers teacching in Central London have had thorough training  with the NCT most having a diploma Antenatal Teaching , although they are not required to be medically qualified. Teachers are expected to keep up to date with the latest developments in maternity care and all are registered with NCT.  They are reviewed by the organisation on a regular basis. Their role is to offer support, information, practical skills and resources to help parents make informed choices for themselves and their babies. They do not offer medical advice and parents are asked to take any questions about the medical care of mother and baby to their midwife, health visitor or doctor.

Each teacher has her own particular style and strengths and no two teachers are alike. NCT accepts and encourages this diversity in approach, recognising that we are all individuals.

Frances Gordon

Frances is the mother of 4 children ranging in age from 5 years to 11years. She lives near Queensway, Central London. Having qualified as an NCT Antenatal teacher in April 1997, after three years of training, she teaches exclusively in Central London. In September 1997 she also qualified as an Exercise Teacher with specialist training in Antenatal and Postnatal Exercise. She sits on the Maternity Services Liaison committee of St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington. Previously Frances worked in finance, marketing and training. Her presentation style is frank, energetic, entertaining and often humorous. The classes allow for plenty of discussion and an opportunity for everyone to get to know each other.

Barbara Kott

Barbara has 3 children all over 20. She lives in South West London. Having qualified as an antenatal teacher in 1978 she runs antenatal courses for NCT, her local GP surgery and local hospital. She also trains antenatal teachers, both for NCT and the NHS (running courses for midwives in antenatal education). Barbara also does a huge amount of voluntary work for the charity. Before becoming involved with NCT Barbara ran her own business. Barbara is an extrovert presenter with a wealth of experience giving thoroughly enjoyable antenatal classes.
